Risk Disclaimer

What can go wrong, stated plainly. Please read this before acting on anything you find on this site.

Investing involves risk, including the risk of losing money. This page sets out the principal risks that apply to the services we provide. It is not exhaustive, and it is not a substitute for the specific risk discussion that forms part of any advice we give you.

Capital is at risk

The value of investments can fall as well as rise. You may get back less than you invested, and in some cases you may lose the entire amount.

Past performance

Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results. A strategy that performed well in one period may perform poorly in the next, and historical figures should never be read as a forecast.

Currency risk

Offshore holdings are exposed to exchange-rate movements. A gain in the underlying investment can be offset — or entirely erased — by a movement in the shilling, and the reverse is equally true.

Liquidity risk

Some securities, including a number listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange, trade thinly. It may not be possible to sell a holding quickly, or at the price last quoted.

Concentration risk

A portfolio concentrated in one country, one currency or one sector will move more sharply than a diversified one. Diversification reduces this risk; it does not eliminate it.

Tax

Tax treatment depends on your individual circumstances and may change. We are not tax advisers, and we recommend you take independent tax advice on any material decision.
