Our story

Professional Philosophy

At VEO Consultancy, we operate on the principle that diversification is not disloyalty. It is a prudent approach to ensuring that Kenyan households do not carry all of their financial risk in a single market or asset class.

Our advisory model is fee-based and not commission-driven. This structure eliminates conflicts of interest and ensures that all recommendations are aligned solely with the client’s objectives. We employ a Resource-Based Strategy beginning with a thorough assessment of a client’s current position to develop clear, actionable, and goal-oriented financial plans. All engagements are supported by transparent, plain-language reporting.

How We Work

  • Listen first. Every engagement begins with your vision, timeline and risk comfort.
  • Plan clearly. Your vision becomes a practical, step-by-step financial roadmap.
  • Act together. We guide execution — accounts, investments, course corrections.
  • Review always. Markets change. Life changes. Your plan keeps pace with both.

Wherever you are on your financial journey, VEO Consultancy walks with you — from your first shilling saved to your global portfolio.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is VEO Consultancy a licensed investment adviser?

VEO Consultancy operates as an independent advisory firm. Details of our regulatory status and registrations are available on request and are set out in our engagement letter before any advisory relationship begins.

How are your fees structured?

We charge on a transparent fee basis — either a fixed fee for a defined piece of work such as a retirement plan, or an ongoing advisory fee for portfolio work. We do not receive commission from stock brokers and we will tell you the full cost before you commit to anything.

Do you take custody of client funds?

No. Your assets remain in accounts held in your own name with regulated custodians and brokers. We advise on those assets; we do not hold them.

What is the minimum amount I need to start?

A unit of stock for either local or foreign stocks

How long does the initial consultation take?

The first consultation runs about an hour. It is a genuine conversation about your circumstances and objectives, not a sales meeting, and there is no obligation to proceed afterwards.

Can I invest offshore as a Kenyan resident?

Yes. Kenyan residents can hold foreign securities, and several routes are available. The practical considerations are platform access, custody arrangements, currency conversion costs and the tax treatment of foreign income — all of which we work through with you before you commit.

How is tax handled on foreign dividends?

Foreign dividends generally attract withholding tax in the source country and may also be assessable in Kenya, with relief available under applicable double taxation agreements. We coordinate with your tax adviser rather than replacing them, since the treatment depends on your overall position.

Do you guarantee investment returns?

No, and you should treat any adviser who does with considerable caution. Investment returns are uncertain, capital is at risk, and past performance tells you very little about future results. What we commit to is a documented process and honest reporting.

How often will we review my portfolio?

Portfolio clients receive a formal review quarterly, with a fuller annual assessment. We will also contact you outside that schedule whenever something material changes in a holding or in your circumstances.

I already have a pension through my employer. Do I need anything else?

Possibly not — but very few people have checked. The useful exercise is establishing what your existing arrangements will actually deliver against what you will need. Where there is no gap, we will tell you so.

Can you help me consolidate pensions from previous employers?

Yes. Fragmented pension pots are common and frequently forgotten. We help you trace them, understand the terms of each, and assess whether consolidating is genuinely in your interest — sometimes it is not.

Is financial coaching only for people in difficulty?

Not at all. A good number of coaching clients earn well and simply have no system — income arrives, is spent unclearly, and nothing accumulates. Coaching is about structure and habit, not rescue.

How much do I need to start investing in US stocks from Kenya?

Many international brokers let you start with as little as fifty to one hundred dollars, and fractional shares mean you can own a piece of major companies without buying a full share.

Is offshore investing risky?

All investing carries risk, but offshore diversification often reduces overall portfolio risk by spreading it across economies and currencies. We help you invest at a risk level you're comfortable with.

How are offshore investments taxed in Kenya?

Tax treatment depends on the type of income and current KRA regulations. We walk you through the practical considerations and recommend consulting a tax professional for your specific situation.

How do I start buying shares in Kenya?

You need a CDS account opened through a licensed stockbroker. We guide you through the process end to end — it can be done in days, and you can start with a modest amount.

Which are the best stocks to buy on the NSE?

The right stocks depend on your goals, timeline and risk tolerance — there is no universal "best." In your advisory session we build a shortlist matched to your plan, based on fundamentals rather than rumors.

Do NSE stocks pay dividends?

Yes — many established NSE companies pay regular dividends, making local stocks a source of both growth and income. We help you build a portfolio that balances the two.

How much money do I need to retire in Kenya?

It depends on your intended lifestyle, location and health needs — but a common starting rule is targeting seventy to eighty percent of your current annual expenses per retirement year. In your session we calculate your personal number precisely.

When should I start retirement planning?

The best time was your first payslip; the second-best time is today. Starting early lets compound growth do the heavy lifting — but even late starters can build meaningful security with the right plan.

Is NSSF enough for retirement?

For most people, statutory contributions alone won't sustain their current lifestyle in retirement. We help you build supplementary savings and investments to bridge the gap.

What's the difference between a financial coach and a financial advisor?

A coach focuses on your money behavior — budgeting, saving, debt and habits. An advisor focuses on investments and portfolios. At VEO you get both under one roof, so your coaching graduates naturally into investing.

Is financial coaching worth it if I don't earn much?

Coaching delivers the biggest impact on modest incomes — because every shilling has to work harder. Most clients recover the cost of coaching through savings found in their first month's budget.
